Bio
Susan Bockman is a visual artist who lives and works in the DC metro area. Living a global, multicultural childhood, which included time in Japan, the Philippines, Germany, Hawaii, and California, has informed her design sensibilities, inspiring a particular affinity for the minimalism, simplicity, and clean lines of both Japanese and Scandinavian aesthetics.
Susan is primarily self taught, and holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Philosophy and Psychology, which she describes as "conceptually and philosophically relevant and influential" to her artistic practice. Prior to devoting herself full-time to her art, Susan worked in the nonprofit sector, in the areas of early childhood research and education, and child welfare advocacy.
Susan creates acrylic color block pointillism paintings using a variety of subject matter, from contour line drawings to shapes inspired by objects occuring in nature, to clean geometric patterns found in manufactured materials and industry. Although she has been making art for over four decades, she only began showing publicly in 2014. Her work is included in private collections throughout Virginia, Tennessee, and New Jersey.
